To make sushi, you will need to go for short or medium grain variety; when cooked the rice is sticky and starchier compared to the long grain variety. To make the sticky rice, you will need the following ingredients: rice vinegar, salt, sugar, sticky rice, and water.
- The first thing you need to do when you learn how to make sticky rice for sushi, you will need to clean the rice 2 times. You can already put the rice in the pan. On the 3rd, you will need to put the water to cook it. Put the pan on the stove and put it to boil. As soon as the water boils, you will need to lower the heat and remove the lid for a while to let the steam out. Put the lid back and check the rice every once in while. To know if the rice is cooked, you will see that the grains are translucent.
- Once the rice is cooked, you will need to remove the pan off the stove; get a wooden spoon and fold the rice. Transfer the rice into a bowl. On a separate bowl, combine the other ingredients and pour it into the bowl with rice. Again, using your wooden spatula, you will need to fold the rice, make sure you do not destroy the grains.
- Before you prepare, let it cool first so that it will be easier for you to roll it. There are some who are more creative when it comes to preparing their sushi rice. On your part, if you don't want to be too traditional and would like to have some fun in the kitchen, you can add some ingredients in it. You can mix the rice with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, chopped parsley for more color. If you want some spunk in your rice, you can add some chili powder; or, put some chopped garlic and pepper with the rice vinegar. Before you put the vinegar, remove the garlic and the chili first. That you are done, then you can now mix it with the other ingredients. You can also pepper to the rice if you want the taste to be less subtle.
